New York – “In light of the recent ruling by the Southern District of Texas, once again declaring DACA as illegal and blocking future applications, we reaffirm our unwavering commitment to defending this vital program. This decision comes after reviewing changes implemented by the Biden administration, underscoring the urgent need for a lawful resolution in higher courts. DACA protects the futures of hundreds of thousands of individuals who have known no other home but the United States. These Dreamers deserve the opportunity to continue living their lives without constant uncertainty and fear. We urge our nation’s policymakers to come together and create permanent solutions for all immigrants; starting by ensuring that those who qualify for DACA and beyond can be protected from deportation and can remain integral to the fabric of our society.
As an organization that supports and fights alongside domestic workers for dignity and respect in the workplace – many of whom are immigrant women of color, Dreamers themselves, and parents of Dreamer children – we urgently call on Congress and the Biden administration to enact permanent protections, now. The ever-changing status of a program in the courts should not determine an individual’s worth. The lives and futures of over 500,000 Dreamers should never be up for debate. They have the right to work, live, and pursue their aspirations; we call for continued collaboration to protect Dreamers and engage in a meaningful national dialogue about humane immigration reform, respecting the contributions of immigrant communities to our workforce and society as a whole.”
